The school was opened in February 1956 with six rooms at 25 McArthur Avenue, St Albans East VIC 3021. It was established as part of a broader expansion of education facilities in the area to relieve pressure on existing schools and cater for the rapidly growing post-war population.

The first Head Teacher was Noel Pruden who was appointed as Temporary Head Teacher in 1956 and established the school.

During the 1960s Mr Carney and his wife Eva were living in Walmer Avenue near the school. Mr Carney transferred to Rosebud in 1969 and was succeeded by Mr R G White.
